TreoSystems Introduces Product Locator System for Large Retailers

Software Tool Helps Shoppers, Employees Find Products Faster, Increasing Both Customer Service and Bottom-Line Profitability

Charlotte, NC, June 10, 2003 – TreoSystems, Inc., a provider of point-of-activity software solutions for the retail industry, announced at Retail Systems 2003 today the official launch of the iPAL System Suite, a set of software tools designed specifically to help both customers and employees find products faster and easier in large retail stores.

Combining key elements of merchandising, operational process, and state-of-the-art technologies with TreoSystems' unique patent-pending software, iPAL represents the first-to-market product of its kind putting real-time product information in the hands of both shoppers and on-the-floor sales associates to maximize the level of personalized customer service.

"It’s nearly impossible to know where every one of the thousands of different items are in today’s superstore environments," said Robert Johnson, TreoSystems’ co-founder and CEO. "Our research, as well as our own experience as consumers, uncovered a fairly significant percentage of shoppers who are frustrated not only because they can’t find what they came in to buy, but can’t always find a store associate that knows either.

With iPAL, every employee and every shopper can know not only the exact location of any product in the store within seconds, but also other useful information such as how many are in stock, how much it costs and - what is particularly unique - suggested related items they may need, creating new cross-selling opportunities for the retailer.

Based upon over a year of focused research, investment and development effort, TreoSystems' integrated iPAL System Suite provides two primary functions:

  • To communicate real-time product and location information for store employees and customers, and

  • To easily capture, update and track all product placements, stock moves and location changes instantaneously

By using iPAL’s easy-to-use WordSearch capability with a variety of wireless handheld devices, customer self-service kiosks or any in-store terminal, users can enter any full or partial product name or description alphabetically, even phonetically, and know immediately if the store carries the item and, if so, where it is and what it costs.

"A major challenge was the need to maintain the real-time integrity of the location data while providing a drop-dead simple process of tracking all of the constant moves and location changes of merchandise that occur every day," said Joseph Squicciarini, TreoSystems co-founder and iPAL’s chief architect.

"By capturing these moves right when they happen with our SKUScan and ShelfScan functions, which can be seamlessly integrated with current store procedures, every employee will always know all sales floor, back-stock and cross-merchandised product locations. This can significantly reduce out-of-stock misquotes and inventory re-orders made in error."

Developed to be easily installed and non-intrusive to mission-critical store systems, the iPAL System Suite is designed for maximum flexibility and rapid store implementation, utilizing open-standard system architectures and most wireless networks used by most major retailers today. Likewise, iPAL’s product design and deployment approach represents a solid foundation to help retailers easily adapt to emerging AIDC technologies such as RFID.
